i never used salt on any of my fresh water tanks but am gonna do so now just until i get rid of the stuff on my festaes lip. i am gonna use regular sea salt that i use for my salt tanks, i just dont know how fast or how much to add. it is a 90 gallon tank but probably has 80 to 85 gallons after the water displacement from the rocks and such. any suggestions?????????

DO NOT USE MARINE MIX!! Marine mixes contain buffers that will alter your pH. Use grocery store plain old table salt (preferably without iodine but, the iodine won't hurt). Fill a plastic container with warm tap water, add dechlor, and add 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon of tank volume. Mix well until all or most of the salt has gone to solution. Then, pour into your tank.

i already used 1 tablespoon of marine mix,.....will it hurt my fish?????????
the ph is already really high here? i only added 1 tablespoon so i could see their reactions over an hour or so. they looked to be flashing at first but now seem to be calm again

The best salt to use i'd personally say would be marine salt ! add 1 to 2 tablespoons per gallon of water your tank holds but don't add it directly to your tank add it in a bucket of luke warm water so that it disolves then add it to your tank also turn up your temp to about 30*c should clear up within the week but don't do any water changes for about 12 to 14 days to make sure the infection or parasite has gone !

Hope this helps you .. and good luck !

yeah, i know it doesnt evaporate as i have salt as well, but i just didnt know about adding salt to a fresh tank. all seems to be well right now. ill add another tablespoon of regular table salt later tonight or tomorrow.

I agree - marine salt in marine tanks and reg aquarium salt in fresh tanks

I would use 1 cup of salt per 30 gal of water and just pour it in and it will be fine.
