Every once in a while U need to decide whether or not to anesthetize FishY prior to performing a proceedure. This would be, naturally, the only good reason (clipping fin damage). But lets say U just wanted to for the "HecK of it" Well here I will tell u how without killing ur FisHy!!! ALKA-seltzer. Use 1 tablet per 1 litre of water. FisHy will be out like a "light" in 1-2 minutes. Remove FishY to a fresh water supply and fishY will recover in 5 to 10 minutes...
