My next setup is probably going to be acrylic. I'm planning to build a 3D rocky background out of styrofoam. What would be the best way to attach it to the tank? With glass tanks I'd just use silicone but I've heard that silicone doesn't adhere well to acrylic. Ideally I'd like a solution that would firmly hold the background in place, but would not be permanent so that I could remove it if I decide to rescape in the future.
I guess I should clarify - I'm not thinking of a full background but rather some rock work near the bottom that will be incorporated with driftwood. So wedging it in wouldn't really work.
Styrofoam will float a lot of sinkers. You can use magnets, silicone will still work, it's just not a great bonding material with acrylic. a lot of people used to use magnets.. just a pain.
why not rig up the suction cup that you have to thread through the plastic holder for some heaters
wrap some fish line around the suction cup knob part and then perforate the styro with the line and basically sew a few say four or so cups to the bottom and back of the rock if you putting it agains the back it should not move
or to add some weight hollow out the back side of the rock and add some substrate to the fake rock like a form of ballast and it should stay in the bottom
for me im not a fan of puttin lead or any other metal in my tanks
