how to breed B/N

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
once the male finds a cave he likes, theyll crank out babies like machines.mine breed it terra cotta pot caves, you can make some caves or there are a few people selling nice ones online

Here is my 55 gallon BN breeder. This is just how "I" do it, but it works for me.

1) Pool filter sand for substrate
2) Large Malaysian driftwood
3) Ceramic "fake" logs that the male guards egg clutches in.
4) a HOT Magnum with the outlet poited to the front of the glass that flows through the breeding log. Inlet has sponge in it for no fry loss.
5) Eheim 2215 with the ground level intake packed with a pot scrubbie for no fry loss.
6) 80 degrees. Mine prefer higher temp for breeding.

The trick for me has always been to have high flowing and highly oxenginated water flowing through the fake log. The male thinks this is the most suitable place by instinct to keep the eggs aerated. Mine have a clutch of fry about once every 5 weeks like clockwork.

Here are some pics of the setup, you can see the fake logs on the left and right of the real wood.
