can anyone teach me how to breed my own shrimps?
feeding live feeders for the long run can be costly, do love to grow them myself. have anyone done that? what equipment is required for me to do so?
I take it you mean brine shrimp? There are a few good guides come up on google under 'cultivating brine shrimp' Im fairly sure alot of species require brakish water, except 'maybe' glass shrimp, my glass shrimp where in berry in fresh water, however they where eaten before they had chance to hatch, by the parents,,,
Depends on what type of shrimp your trying to breed really... Marble Crays if you can get your hands on them are the easiest to breed since they are asexual breeders as in you only need one to start a colony...
Cherry Reds although a lot smaller are also very easy to breed and very forgiving if you have the right setup for them...
Ghost Shrimp although live in F/W i think need brackish water to breed so they may not be the best bet unless you don't mind changing the parameters to get them to breed when the time comes???
I've only personally tried breeding Cherry Reds and Marble Crays myself...
But from my experience, cherry red babies are fine if left with the adults... but as for the crays, you may experience some losses but shouldn't be too bad as long as they have enough space/hiding places and the adults are kept well fed...
well with crays, most people would say if you can separate the adults from the babies then its better to do so to maximize survival rates... but if you can't / don't want to do, one method is to add some moss into the tank i.e. a moss ball so that they have places to hide from the adults...
I've breed both cherry reds and crays. Both will be fine if you leave them alone. The shrimp will breed on their own and you won't have to remove anyone. Just throw some in a tank and wait a few months.
With crayfish it all depends on how many you want to produce. If you throw male and a female (or a single mamorkreb) in a tank and let them breed, the female will berry and the eggs will eventually hatch. The babies will hang onto the tail of the mother until they are man enough to wander off. Once they leave the tail they are fair game and the mother will eat them if she is not fed. They will also eat each other which you can't really stop unless you separate them all. I just leave the parents in the tank, keep them well fed and they shouldn't eat to many babies.
I have mine in a 40 gallon. I breed and let them grow, I have no reason to sell them or anything. They just grow and reproduce and it seems to be fine. You might be able to get away with a 29 if you want to just use the babies as feeders once they get an inch long or something.
