Is there any good guides on how to do a custom aquarium build? After getting my 200g home I got the bug/idea to look into a custom build once we do our basement addition so that I could house a growing musky. Other option is a Koi type pond out side by the patio but would prefer it inside since our weather here in the norhtern midwest can get very cold.

In the FORUM selection at the top right hand corner of any page, there are a number of sub forums. The DIY Sub-Forum is where you might want to look if you are wanting to do a build yourself and if you want to make your tank of wood. It's the only place to look. Many accomplished and completed DIY builds are listed. If it's acrylic or glass there may be a few but not many that I have found.

In regards to your other option for a Koi pond, in the northern midwest during the winter, you might consider putting your koi pond inside of a very well insulated green house next to the patio. This idea has been done in Portugal using solar and wind energy to power most everything electric. I hope this helps. Here's wishing you much success with your endeavors. ~David

Thanks for the info. I would like to do it in acrylic of glass. The option of a green house set up won't work where we are at right now. I may have to get info from the local bait shop that built a 16k tank in their show room here-he's not very open on discussing it though.

If you discuss your plans and your intentions, maybe he'll open up and discuss it with you. You'll never know unless you really try.

As far as your Koi pond/greenhouse, I think if you use allternative heating for the inside of it and for your pond, you might surprise yourself and find that it will work. You have to use your imagination, improvise when you can and have a lot of ambition.
