Hi guys,

just bought an approximately 3"-4" S. rhombeus the other day. It was a real steal at 52$, since here in Germany they usually go for twice that at this size. He's in quarantine right now, but will be moved into his new home, almost 100g, at the end of the week. No tankmates as of yet, might be adding some convicts later. I just hope I see him again, 100g for a <4" fish :screwy:

I wanted to ask what you would suggest to do to build up his confidence? He's very skittish at the moment. And I am not talking about factors like the tank itself (dimm lights, hinding places and even some plants), but rather about his behaviour.

Did you guys use any tricks to get yours finger chasing (a sign of confidence for me)?

I could imagine spending a lot of time in front of the tank to get him used to me might do the trick?!

I would really appreciate any input.

Cheers

There's no answer thats set in stone. It all depends on the fish, I don't really think you can change the behavior of the fish. I think if you can make the fish feel more comfortable and secure, then it might be more confident in swimming around the tank.

Yeahy, like the above said there's really no trick. Spending alot of time in front of the tank can help it get use to it but wont' gurantee it'll be a finger chaser or stop becoming skittish. I've heard some will literally change over night after months or years and some stay the way they always were. Good luck though.

Thank you guys for the answers. I hope he changes a bit as soon as he's settled in properly. Will do my best to make him feel comfortable. So let's wait and see :)

Any suggestions on "what" he might be exactly (where from)? Stupid store only knew "Black Rhombeus".

I'm fine with anything, love the little fellow! Just out of curiosity...

But I guess I'll have to wait till he grows.

His left eye is a little cloudy, since he seems to love swimming in the current along the front glass like a maniac.

most of the black piranhas come from Peru so most likely its coming from there as well unless you can get the collection location from the store you got it from.

Peru is what I think as well, we will see as he grows up.
