I am going to start setting up a 75gal and want to stock it with one flowerhorn.
Problem is the ones that I have seen have ranged in price from $20 to >$400. Of course the $400 one looked nicer than the $20 one, but what should I be looking for in a juvi?

I would like to get one as small as possible (seen them as small as 3") and grow it out. Do flowerhorns this small exhibit the colour pattern and intensity, spots, and pearls that they will have when grown?

Some tips for picking one out would be great!!!

Thanks,
Burt:)

I was wondering about that too. Anyone?

tips on finding ur new FH

1st eyes have to be red.
2nd check the flower above its eye or the black dot its called a flower. if it shows thats a good sign.
3rd see if he's having a lump or mutating a lump on its head if it is thats 1 good FH
4th for 3inchers colors appear for some and some are still developing theirs. it all depends on food that the LFS gives them. (i dont recommend feeding FH with feeders feed them with high quality granules.)
5th its fins must be perfect (no ripped fins whatsoever.)
and lastly check if the FH is following ur finger, point at the aquarium and move ur finger (like playing with them) if some follow the movement choose them those are the healthy ones.

i said this all coz lets say i have a background on FH's coz my cousin runs his pet store and he specializes on FH's those were the things he told me to distinguish the poor FH from the better FH. and oh yea both my FH's are great and both of them came from my cousins store. i dont have a digicam to post their pics though... :(

i hope this could help u out guys.
