hey for all fellow aro keepers..wonder how you guys choose the arowana out of like over a hundred or so in aquarium shops.
my last arowana i took 4 hours to select him.it was a chili red.i selected him because i felt it had something with me.i was with my friend when i was selecting him and when my friend went near the tank it didnt even bother him,but when i went near the aro swan up to me excitedly like asking me to pick him and bring him home.no other arowanas in the LFS i was in did this.so i bought him,at 1.8k,singapore dollars.now he is happily swimming in my tank for 1 1/2 years already.usually people look for aros that colour shine out or no defects, (eg protuding jaw,eye buldge, torn fins, broken or short barbels, etc) but nowadays as the market for arowana is huge, its quite easy to find a non defective arowana.

I first based my selection on how long does this fish lives and how much can I afford, so there's no question that I'll most likely pick the silver arowana which is the cheapest and has the longest lifespan of any other arowanas(am I right?). So if I get to pick the silver, I check the fins first, the eyes, the body and coloration as well but most important for me is on how it swims because that's the most important for me to know if it's healthy or not :).So there :D

To summarize my answer, I put it this way: "The cheaper, The longer the lifespan, has good health, the better :).
