I mean, what are you looking for in selecting a Juvy Kelberi around 3"-5"? Is there any visible signs to distinguish which one is better?

Well that's a given fact. What I would like to know if there is like a key indication in selecting a better piece over the other. Like for example in Flowerhorn.. you are looking for KOK, redness, plums, etc. But here we are talking about juvy size in kelberi about 3-5"

I look for overall symmetry of the body when they are that size. As long as the tail is not deformed or crooked, or the head at an unusual angle or something. The coloration and patterns will just be a surprise at some point. I try to buy as many juvies as I can afford, grow them out until you see the traits you like and then sell off the rest. Other benefits to that is bass are easier to pellet train at that size as they are more competitive for food in larger groups. I also like to think they adapt to being in a group in the tank and not fight as much, still working on that theory.

^This. Buy a group and grow them out and watch for qualities that are different or that you find attractive....head hump, spangles, attractive pattern, and get rid of the ones with unattractive qualities.
