How do I clean a clay pot for convicts to breed?

terracotta?... if so rinse with hot water.... do not use bleach or any harmful substances.... i also soaked mine in water with conditioner in it before i added to my tank

The parents will inspect and clean it to thier satisfaction before laying eggs. Why dont you just give it a rinse and throw it in? Or if its filthy, then a scrub it with a stiff brush and then throw it in.

If they are fussy fish then turn the cave opening towards the back to give them privacy. With careful positioning you can peer in via double reflections off back and side. If the cave mouth is too big so they dont feel secure then cut the pot in half or bury it right down in gravel.

Unless you are worried about disease don't clean it at all. Let the spawning pair do it. Its an important part of their bonding/courtship ritual. Otherwise soak it in a strong muriatic acid solution for a couple of hours and then soak in a bucket of clean water for a day before putting in the spawning tank.

Rinse with hot water and throw it in. Its ALL that is required.

Potts: Why would you think to do that when all it takes is a quick half minute rinse?

Rinse it and throw it in.Some of the pots I got free at garage sales I left out in the rain a few weeks first.

Sometimes I use a steel brush, But my plec cleans it up pretty good.

soak it in 100% bleach for 24 hours, then drop it into boiling water for 10 minutes, then scrub it down with naval jelly, and then thoroughly rinse it with distilled water, and then bake it at 325 for 10 minutes in a preheated oven.

or just rinse it in hot water.
