Just got a great deal on a eheim 2227 filter that was previously used on a saltwater set up. I want to use it on my 75 gallon freshwater plant/cichlid set up what do I need to do to get it clean enough to use on my tank????

rinse it really well. scrub the salt deposits off. nothing big.

I always boil the media for good measure. The plastic pieces I wash out with just hot water. Also, on the two filters we've converted from SW to FW, we stop by the ACE hardware and buy new hoses for them. It's really quite easy, and we've never had a problem doing this at all.

scrub and rinse with not water. make sure you dont use soap or any detergent. i would get new media and hoses too

great thanks guys im going to rinse it and let it run for a week or so and then go get the water tested after changing the water 4-5 times and see if there is any traces of salt in the water before i put it in and kill everything that i have put alot of work into building.
