Lil C, I enjoy your questions here, keep them coming.
I want to assure you that it is OUR best interest to have a healthy (FEAR) respect for the rays we keep no matter how big, small, tame or wild caught. Having a healthy (FEAR) respect for the rays will help you ensure safe practices everytime you need to conduct business in the ray tank.
With that being said:
It will help your cause if you stick to a routine that the ray can become acclimated/accustomed to. Feeding at the same times each day. Turning on/off the lights at the same time each day. Cleaning on the same days each week with the same tools and techniques each time. All of this will help you develop a "relationship", for lack of better terms, with you rays and decrease the chances of injury to the ray or yourself.
Keep the questions coming and Happy Ray-Keeping.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.
