i want to set up my tank with lots of large rocks to make caves and such. ive noticed when i do my gravel vac a lot of waste builds up under the rocks. how do you guys work around this? i cant imagine having to take the rocks out every time. right now im using a Rena Xp3 filter. any suggestions? thanks for the input.

I've always used a fine sand and while waste still accumulates around the decorations, it's much easier to siphon out.

Or you could pick up a few powerheads to add to the flow of the XP3 to help keep things stirred up.

Well, i don't exactly take the decorations out the tank, but i do move them around the tank while i siphon where they usually would sit around once a week...

I just move my rocks when I clean. But if you use heavy rocks then it's gonna be a PITA............

a little trick i use sometimes is i will take a couple buckets of water out and then dump a bucket back in to stir up all the junk from under the rocks. and then before it settles too much i will vac up all the gunk from the bed. its less hassle than moving all the rocks and much less disruptive to territories
