I am thinking of getting into sting ray. I had read the sticky articles and really concern about being sting by the ray.
Does any one know of any method, trick to cover up the ray's barb? or is it ok to remove it? thank you all

No need to be so fearful of these creatures. If you really want to get into them please research them. They are very passive creatures. Unless they are provoked are startled and you happen to be right there you have nothing to worry about. Never spook a ray its pretty simple. I hand feed all of mine and have never thought even once that any of them was ever going to tag me. De-barbing is cruel on the animal and really doesn't matter much anyway as they grow like fingernails and they usually are growing 2 at any given time. They lose one about every 4-6 months only to have it replaced by the next one comming up.
If you are really that scared I would say stingrays are not for you.....

No, no, no; Don't worry about the stinger; I've had my ray for over a year and he is peaceful as can be; just keep an eye on them when you're working in the tank; if you get too close he'll flare up and give you a warning; 100% of the time they'll swim away if they can; they will only use their stinger as a last resort; I bought my stinger removal tool from cabelas, for the just in case scenario!

Covering the barb can lead to problems - and how do you think you cover it? Just drop the cover into the tank and say "hey, Mr. ray, can you put that on for me please?". Catching and manipulating the ray to cover the barb - or trim it, for that matter, would be more likely to get you stung than simply treating the ray with a little respect when you've got your hands in the tank.

Yea I've been a ray keeper for about 6 months now. And I was a lil worried too. Not to the point of wanting to remove the stinger but I was concerned. Seriously u don't need to be worried at all. They r very peaceful creatures. My eel lays on her, swims over her even to the point to where she hugs her eyes in and not even a raise of the tail.

The covers you see in pics were put on by the people who catch and ship them (normally from wild) they CAN cause infection....

Rest of my post is +1 on what everyone else said.
