HI
my 20 gallon community has devoloped some type of disease or parasitic infestation. I'm not sure what it was but it killed almost all my fish. Its just a regular 20 gallon community lightly planted and with a 65w cfl. At this point Ive already tried a few types of treatments that the lfs recomended but I don't think Im going to be able to figure it out. So my question is, what do I have to do to make sure my tank is safe again? I did many water changes and recently cleaned it cause I thought it was too dirty but that didnt help. my friend told be to just wait it out and let it runs its course, what should i do? heres what died(in the order they died): 2 bala sharks, 2 tiger barbs,1 blue ram, 1 sailfin pleco,. the survivors so far are a red gourami and 2 bumble bee goby's. All these fish were pretty small and I had them all about 6 months before they started dying and slowly died over the past 3 weeks.

What were your parameters? Be VERY careful when dosing any treatment into a planted tank, as many plants are sensitive to many common treatments. Also, what symptoms were the fish showing before they died? What is your setup as well.

heres my ram, its hard to tell but he has white stuff almost looks like tiny splotches of paint... but hes still alive. my friend said the balas had septisemia sp? because they had blood in there fins and little growths that look like ick but wasnt bubbles and so i was using marycyn2 but they died any way, the pelco and tiger barb just kinda dropped dead, no visible signs (from my novice eye...) they were even eating normall the same day. its a reg. 20 gallon with an aquaclear 50, 100w heater, the temp is now around 87, i usually keep it at about 80, unfortunately I havent ever ph tested my water but i been using tap water without testing on this community tank for a long time through several months/cleanings and never had a problem with it until now thanks for the help oh yea and i think i did kinda mess w/ my cabomba when i put medecine but at that time i was more worried about trying to save my fish
