How to cycle my tank

I tested my water after 1 week and found very high levels of ammonia and very acidic water.

i did a pretty big water change after that but i just wanted to know how i can better establish the nitrogen cycle in my tank so i dont have to gravel vac and water change every week.

i used the api freshwater test kit

I'm assuming you have fish? If so, i would avoid vacuuming the gravel to allow the beneficial bacteria another surface but keep doing the wc's.

Are you cycling with Fish? Or Fish-less Cycling? Need more info.. if your cycling w/ fish i would do a 50% WC de-chlor w/ Prime double dose, then get a bottle of SeaChems Satbility follow direction to the "T" it will help cycle you tank in 10 days more or less depends on tank size then proceed to keep testing till your water parameter are where they should be...
