How to decorate tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would say go collect some local rocks and put them in a bucket and pour boiling water over them to kill any bacteria, then after you have made sure there isnt much dirt or dust within or on the rocks put them into your tank, with those two fish if they decide to fight then the weaker one will need a place to retreat to, even if its just hiding behind a rock, so thats really my only recomendation when it comes to keeping cichlids you need some escape places incase fights break out.

Yeah they are already fighting but more so a dominance thing the Dempsey is charging and nipping once in awhile nothing serious yet. But I wasn't sure as to I'd outside rocks are ok but sounds good to me! What's the deal with drift wood?

get natural gravel or pool filter sand and also some plants and either a nice piece of driftwood or a few nice rocks that you find. the more places for the weaker fish to go to the better like Stratoquarius said.

Ya more hiding spots for sure! And decorate however youd like! Its your tank. But ya you can use rocks from outside. I usually boil mine for 30 min or so and clean dust and excess of. Drifwood your going to want to soak it for a couple weeks. Changing the water very often. Itl help get out the tannins. I have big pieces in one of tanks and they still seep out but it gives the water a kinda nice tint imo.

all the rocks come from around my neighbourhood, as long as you boil pour boiling water over the rocks and leave the water to cool down naturally, any harmful bacteria in the rocks will be killed. you can do this multiple times if you are paranoid but i've done this in different countries for about 10 years and never had any problems!
