Got this question in mind when I see so much variation in the mono body pattern, typically, is it more the black spots with gold surrounding on body, the nicer of the mono? I know it's kind of personal perference, but just want to know what is most ppl's preference toward this!!:popcorn:

Peru Mono's, for me, are the nicest of the bunch.

oh..actually I buy my cichla as Peru Mono's which I really feel questioned about what's the different from common mono's.
can it be tell from the same pic I just shown?

peru mono just means monos from peru.
all still mono.
most monos available now adays are farmed.
these can be hybrids as well...
and generally,IMO,look worse than the wild ones.

the mono in that picture looks stressed.

That's also what I think, I don't know why, they just look very scare everytime I walk toward the tank and just hiding behind, what will be the possible cause? I suspect about the white lighting...

That's exactly what I think, I mean the farmed is always worse than the wild whatever they have done in selective breeding!

getting used to you?
how new are they?
do they realize YOU are providing them with food?
ive never had a problem with lights scaring them.
your water params are fine?

dont think theres selective breeding in cichla really...some hybrids yes.
but most of the time they just dump adults in a pond and let them breed.

I wouldn't think it's lighting either, Cichla are one of the few fish I've kept that don't seem to be bothered by the harsh lighting of fluorescent tubes. Mine kinda move towards cover when I approach the tank but within a second or two are back out swimming around wanting food!
