how to dim a bright light

How do i make a light dimmer? i need the light to be not as bright because of algae problems and its is too bright for my piranha.

I assume this is a fluorescent unit with no dimming capability.

Use some electrical tape on the bulb to restrict the light output of the lens or bulb itself.

Use tint on the lens if equipped.

could i maybe put a piece of paper under the light to dim it?

Ive put paper underneath the light. It works alright.

I just put a thin sheet of clear amber colored plastic wrap. It works good.

this should help you out.

you cant add a dimmer to a floro bulb and ballast. its will just fry the ballast out. another way to reduce the light out put is to raise the fixture higher above the tank.
