how to distinguish males from female in Texas

i went to a Lfs today and i saw 5 pairs of green texas. all were of the size of 3-4 inch. i wanted to buy a male texas.But wasn't able to distinguish. so was watching carefully i saw two texas fighting , usually males fight so thought like buying but all thoughts got killed when the seller told me he sells pair not a single specimen. Anyway i ask him about the male texas he said male texas develops black gills which are more brighter . Is that true {also usually the male do the digging or female also do in case of green terror}

Female Carpinte and Cyanoguttatus have a black spot on their dorsal fin and males do not.

well friend i just got a 8 inch green texas male .
Healthy but got a loss stomach.
tell me how to fill his stomach to get the beauty
he eats shrimps and live feeder as of now.
can i feed tetra bits to this size fish
although he hates pelates

beef heart, krill, blood worms. stay away from feeders. I hate Pilates too, but if he's hungry enough he may eat 'Pellets' lol

Quit feeding the feeders. They have very nutrients to them and the few they have are poor quality. Stick to a quality pellet/flake staple and mix with something like bloodworms or krill (frozen not freezedried)

Feeders usually have parasites in them and will transfer them to the fish eating them. Usually it leads to a death or extreme sickness..

Feeders a poor source for any kind of nutrience. They are mostly fat and from my checking the stores that sell them, they do not quarantine them or even feed them.

Healthy foods will make the color, body and head of a male Texas really look great!

If female she will not get the larger head shape or nuchal.

The females not getting the hump is untrue; does not get quite as big as the males is more like it. The last way to go about purchasing a certain sex with texas'.. I've had huge males with no humps at all, and vice versa..

Since you already got him, posting up a pic could get you a more set in stone answer. A good clear vent shot might help too..

He is 8 inch in length dont know the age
seems like he/she is breed ed in a pond cos he/she is very very shy when we are sitting close to him. He/she keeps digging , and very very moody.
Don't know about his/her sex so i use he/she
