Hi,

I have some male & female Cichla and it seems like some of them are showing some good signs... I was just wondering I there is anything I can do to help give them that little nudge? I.E I have seen people with slanted rocks for eggs, plant pots etc? will any of this help?

cheers
Sam

Let the pair have the whole tank to themselves, smooth rock for the eggs, I even heard water changes and trickling water on the surface to mimic the rainy season.

Yup, am in the process of moving everything else to my 250, fingers crossed, also is there any limitations when it comes to cross breeding? I.E can anything breed with anything? more specifically can a Mono breed with a Orino for example?

Cheers

I have had great luck with feeding them heavily on fatty foods, especially the female. I will feed them whole shiners, salmon and tuna along with their normal massivore. Then once they start to show some courtship behaviors I will do 50% water changes for 2-5 days in a row. I try to keep the new water that goes into the tank a degree or two colder than the water temp and next thing you know there are eggs all over the place. For me getting them to lay eggs is the easy part. Raising the fry is a whole different story.

I play Barry White and turn the lights down a little.:naughty: Oh ya and big water changes...
