I got two Laps from my LFS a few weeks back. They are both good size already but not nearly as thick as my other bichirs of similar length. I'm pretty sure the distributor doesn't feed that well. I've tried to give them market shrimp and they ate it at first, but they don't seem to like it anymore. They eat feeders, but that isn't something I'd like to be their main diet. In anyone's experience do Laps prefer something different then other polys?
take it easy,

Hmm, my lap that I picked up recently does seem to show a preference for cut up earthworms over frozen krill.

The lap I used to have preferred shrimp pellets.

I think with all bichirs, their taste is part of their dynamic personalities, and you are seeing your lap's shine through. :)

btw, those are really nice laps! the green one will look amazing once it's settled in.

Just feed the crap out of them to fatten them up and tons of water changes. In time you will see the difference. It also takes patience. A little starving will not hurt to get your laps to eat what you want them to eat. GL!:D

Feed often... if I know who your distributor is, it'll take a few months to get the fish chunked up. I feed all of mine market shrimp cut in halves... they can get the halves down easily and seem to have room for more food. Also silversides, when the shrimp runs out.

Remember though, not all fish are meant to be fat. I've seen very chubby laps, and ones that were always thin, which I guess I just assumed was from it being more active. Maybe your laps want to be streamlined attackers :)
