Any suggestions on how to feed my oscar? Hes blind in one eye and cant see floating pellets. He knows they are there though. He can catch feeder fish, but I dont want to keep feeding live food. I would rather get him on a healthier diet. Any ideas?
u pretty much have no other option besidesfeeders
i have plenty of one eyes fish
and theyre fine on rossies
he could catch live food if he wanted too

a typical oscar
try sinking pelets
of those scavenger pelets
Make a ring out of airline tubing, about 6" in diameter, secure to the front of the tank put the pellets only inside the ring this way your oscar does not have to search for the food. Avoid feeding live feeders they are very unhealthy for your fish.
My one eyed texas got to about 8" on feeders at a friends house, then when I inherited him i was determined to break him of the habit. I started by feeding him rosies out of a bowl (they were half dead) and gradually started adding pellets to the bowl so he would unwittingly eat them. Eventually there were just pellets in the tank and he ate them with no prob
I have an one eyed oscar. He eats pellets fine. In the beginning after he lost his eye it was very awkward for him and he had a tough time. I just kept on putting the pellets in and he learned to adjust. He competes fine now with all my other cichlids.
I always slightly tab on the glass with my finger everytime I feed my fish. Then 1 day, my albino oscar lost both of his eyes to some mystery tank mates, not sure it was the salvini, JD, or GT. He still goes up to find his food easy when I do the tabing.
