Hey, so i've done my homework on stingrays, have a 125g tank, and am getting my first ray today. Im very excited altho through out all my homework i can figure out how to feed your rays ghost shrimp. Some people put in a few 3 or so times a day, so is that the way you do it? Would it not be possible to just dump about 40 in the tank and replenish the shrimp population every so often when he eats them all? How do you feed your rays? Any input would help, thanks!

I'm guessing you're refering to river shrimp? These shrimps live in brackish waters and they will die in your freshwater aquarium in a few hours so its best to feed the stingray as much as it can consume in 10 minutes and then remove the surplus.

nah, i mean ghost shrimp, used for food with a lot of fish. They dont live in brackish water, sometime people even put them in with their community tanks. Do you have a ray?

Most of the ghost shrimp I find do perfectly fine in freshwater tanks, as that fw is where they come from. I've got about 30 in a tank right now that have been there for months, because my Retic stingray decided they weren't food :irked:.

To the OP, I would just dump in 10-20 and see how long they last. Also you should mix in other foods, as ghost shrimp by themselves aren't especially nutritious. If its a picky eater, try live blackworms. Also try frozen bloodworms, nightcrawlers or red worms, and cut up market shrimp and tilapia fillets.

okay, i got a rough idea on how to do it, just one more question tho, how do you guys feed your stingrays? Also, it was sold to me as a Colombian teacup stingray, probably a retic tho,

wow, you guys are quick to assume the worst. i feed blackworms, ghost shrimp and im slowly trying to get my ray to eat chopped earthworms, hes taken a couple now but he doesn't always eat them. I think im gonna try using metal prongs to feed him the chopped worms, anyone have any luck with that?

Best method to break rays to new foods, completely stop feeding and only feed what you want them to eat. Eventually they will break onto it, just don't start giving in after 2 days of not feeding. Healthy rays can go for weeks without food.
