I'm basicly new. but i've been lurking on the pond forums.

I'm wondering how you guys come up with you gallon numbers (size) of your ponds?

i'm surfing google right now and there seems like 3 ways to do it.

measure in feet, x 12 for inches
find volume in inches3
divide inches3 by 231 to get gallons

Or 7.5 gallons/cu ft.
Or , for really irregular shapes : measure how long it takes your garden hose to exactly fill a 5 gal or other exact size container. Then measure how long it takes to fill the pond, and do the math.

Length X width X avg. depth X 7.5 gives a good estimate.
On irregular shapes break down the areas into small squares.

Drain it (if it has water in it) and then fill it with one gallon water bottles and count how many it takes to reach the top

We are bumping a thread the op hasnt posted on in 7 years to tell them to drain their pond into gallon jugs? :screwy:
