My small "female" turned out to be a male, and i would like to find some females. However, all the fish at my LFS are small. Is there an easy way to tell males from females when they are young?
well they look just like Melanochromis auratus (females that is) which is commonly found in stores...
The chipokae can be differentiated from the similar looking Melanochromis auratus in the following ways; auratus juveniles will have white lines, in addition to their yellow and black coloration, the chipokae also has a more pointed snout, and a larger mouth.
