So I have never paid attention to the pH in my fishtanks water that being said now that I’m gonna have a very big Cichlid tank I want their colors to be very vibrant one of the things to get this to happen is to have a high pH. I am on city water and my pH is 7.0 There will be a there will be around 500 gallons of water that I need to treat so it needs to be something cost-effective and easy to treat that many gallons. I don’t know if it helps but I will have a sump and plan on running a plant refugium I have purchased the Cichlid sand but don’t know where to go from here. I don’t want to Drop $1000 on fish for them not to reach their full potential.

What specie of Cichlid?

Please read what Duane has posted.
I’m sorry but I don’t get how that applies to me I don’t want my pH at nine I want it higher than seven that’s what’s coming out of my tap. All I was asking was how to maintain that because I would think when I would do a water change it would make my pH fluctuate too much?

The best source in my experience I've used was crushed coral. Place it in a mesh bag. You will have to monitor the PH until it where you want it. So adding until possible. I asked what specie of Cichlids so you could possibly avoid adding anything. Also all the links are for different info for both hardness and PH.

Thank you it’s mostly going to be haps and peacocks.
