I have Geophagus juripardi or Satan juri... it doesn't eat from water surface, am i suppose to feed sinking pellets? coarse gravel as substrate.

Yeah get some sinking pellets. They rarely come to the surface.

hi nemesis, what type of small pellets that sink? its been finding/eating junk food in the gravel for about a week.

Regular sinking cichlid pellets should do fine. Hikari makes good stuff.

satanoperca jurupari isn't considered a geo.. Anyways, these fish eat by sifting through the the substrate, not floating pellets.. You can only feed sinking foods, and depending on the size of it, you might have to crush it into pieces.

I have geo bras that eats from the surface as well as food from the bottom. Hikari works but if you can get your hands on brine shrimp then your in business

i have brine shrimps, i threw them away when they hatch, thought it will be too small for them.

Nah, it'll eat em. But it's not really a good staple food, more like a treat. Plus your other fish might bully it out the way. Eartheaters love to do just what their name says, and will continually sift through your gravel for food. Just make sure your gravel isn't big enough for it to get stuck in the fish's mouth/throat.

Omega-One Shrimp Pellets are a good choice for any eartheater. They are stick-shaped, so it might be necessary to crush them up depending on how large your S. jurupari is. Satanoperca appreciate sinking foods, but when they are settled and comfortable they will feed very readily from the surface.
