I've posted a picture below of Steatogenys duidae, the 'mottled knife' I think you're talking about. The common names are all messed up (if they exist at all) for the Hypopomidae family, that it's hard to be 100% sure we're talking about the same fish. I've also heard them called "ossa knives" "cetipede knives" and "striped knives."

As far as I know most come out of Venezuela and Brazil, though you might(?) be able to import them from Peru as well. Trilbytropicals (http://trilbytropicals.com/About Us.htm) had some over the summer for $25, if I remember right (they called them striped knives I think). But I've seen them anywhere from $15-45 (US). You might also try the vender forums on this site, to see if anyone can import them for you.

Good luck on your search! I know how hard it is to see all the cool South American knives online, and not be able to get any but the damn black ghost!
