After looking at all the massive Flagtails on here im now wondering what people are feeding them to get them so BIG?!

Unfourtunitly I think the one I bought had been living under fed in the pet shop for a while, it was about 3" 7months ago and is now just pushing 7".

I feed him twice a day on a mix of Hikari pellets, what else will he eat to get Massive?!

Thanks Jay

x2, but you can do even more water changes than that. Besides a constant supply of fresh vegetables, a 50% water change every other day is fine for volume while still being stable enough to skip a few days here and there without seeing any ammonia.

mine doesn't even grow. i'm so pissed with my LFS, perhaps it's already stunted. only around 8".

At least yours got to 8" haha!

Romaine lettuce, seaweed, zucchini skin, almost anything green and leafy. Wash it well, anchor it to something and your fish should figure out that it's food after a few days. Replenish it after a day if he hasn't eaten it so it doesn't rot in there. Zucchini will rot fast while greens like kale tend to last longer.

Ok sounds good ill try that, my Clowns and Synspillium will like that as well! Thanks

There are two types of prochilodus flagtails;

insignis- dark spots fade away with age, grow to 17"+

taeniurus- keep their spots, grow slower, and max out at 12"

When young taeniurus have more black spotting running futher towards the front of the fish.
