a shotgun, or a dog, or geese, your choice (shotgun works the best)

be lucky the DFG didnt hear you say a shotgun is the best way to get rid of herons

Get a statue of a heron from a garden store. Supposedly they will not invade anothers territory. Or string fishing line over the pond.

Until mating season. :D

try and scare it without killing it-paintball gun maybe or a pea shooter etc.Or throw some kind of firecracker at it.Idk?are fireworks legal in California?thats all I can think of.paint gun may hurt the bird though-herons are kool so try not to hurt it

Having worked at a pond store I have seen all kinds of things. A fake heron will work until the real bird realizes it doesnt move at all, they will become used to it (they are smarter than you think). Your best bet would be something called a Scarecrow, it is a motion activated sprinkler. They are kind of expensive but they work very well. Good luck
