Had someone ask for help on this so I figured I would ask the experts :) How does one get mites off of a ball python?

Hi,I had the same problem with my ball python when purchased, there are specific products on the market to rid mites, otherwise a visit to your vet would be best.

Also don't forget that getting them off the the python is only half the battle. You also have to go through the enclosure as well and anything that is in the enclosure. These little guys love to hode in evrey crack and crevise in the enclosure

now here is my expertise,,,first strip all the decorations out of the tank(get rid of them,,if you must keep freeze for two weeks then bake them for awhile),,,,2-put the snake in a rubbermaid container,,,cover him with vegatable oil(smothers the mites)
3-use a 50-50 bleach-water solution,,heres the big trick to kill eggs,,,make sure to wipe all the corners at the top of your tank (mites lay eggs high in corners) put only paper towels in there for substrate wipe your snake off and put him back with only paper towls in the tank put a fill the corners with vasoline in the corners, and use a pest strip(not a fly strip) put the pest strip inside a rubbermaid and poke holes in it,,,repeat this evry other day for 2 weeks (sounds ruff but its the only way to dstroy mites and their life cycle) repeat all these steps everytime..The problem with all commercial products are the run mites off and when your done cleaning the come right back its a cycle that needs to be brokenThere is no 1 magic spray,i dont care what they say, sprays that might do what it says are an exception not the rule. Also all the ingrediants you use doing it my way are safe,,except bleach but surly people have sense to let the solution dry and for smells to leave before returning an animal. Snakes are extremely sensitive thats why i refrain from using any chemical sprays,,and far as natural stuff they say works its made from the same materials they dont recomend using for reptiles because it cause death(cedar dust and the likes of other nosious(to reptiles) materials) Hopes this helps. The best medication for this is prevention.

:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2Thanks everyone. I have emailed all the responses to the person who asked, and proudly referred them here for more help, or advice on where to get help with their new pet. :) MFKers friggen rule!:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Warm bath the snake and rinse everything else with warm water, no need for quemicals

Thanks again everyone. I agree about the prevention, but she had bought it for her son from a local reptile shop, and didn't know anything about looking for them so she had no idea. I had never come across them on mine and didn't know how to answer :)
