hey i got a 120 with a RD FH and a common pleco.. lately i've been noticing thread like worms in my tank about 1/2 inch long.. there are tons of them especially when i stir up the bottom.. i tried copper with no success. anyone knows how to kill em please let me know.. thanks

I dont know the name of the worms but I believe they are harmless. They are actually beneficial because they break up waste in the tank. The worms are difficult to get rid of, because they will come back. They exist in the water juts like ich and other little creatures. If you dont wanna see them much, cut down on feeding and do more gravel vacs. But really, there is no definite cure for them.

Of course, this oinly applies to the worms I am thinking of. Are they clear in color?

Best way to help get rid of them is do good vacs on the substrate, unless you have a sand substrate. Then you could just stir the sand and vac the worms up with the end of your hose. Cut back on feedings and keep doing good water changes. It will help to reduce the number of worms.

They are Planaria. Often they come from overfeeding and/or poor filtration. As mentioned, do frequent vacuumings and feed less.

yeah they are clear white ish in color they twitch around in the tank.. my friend said they are nematoads (SP?). he said they are harmless too. but i think they look unsightly.. i do a 50-75% H2O change every week and focus on the gravel reall good... but eh i want em gone

for filtration i'm running a fluval 304 - H.O.T magnum (rated 250 gph)and a bio wheel(350 gph) i'm pushin water. i have a sand substraight. but i vacuum the hell out of it. i do feed my FH 3 times a day trhough

I dont believe they are planaria. These worms stay in the substrate only right? I got them in my shrimp tank. I also have planaria too and possibly another species of worms. Nothing you can do really to get rid of them for good. Your efforts are useless because they exist in the water just like ich, they come out when certain conditions are met. The best way is to keep their population down by taking away what they need to thrive. I use to pull out alot of them in my shrimp tank, but now when I do gravel vacs there is only a few.

They dont ever leave the substrate either, they stay there breaking up waste and food. Ive dump some of them in my sink to look at them and I noticed they freak out when they arent covered, they dont like being exposed, so they stay in the substrate.

It sounds like detritus worms/planaria. Stir that sand up and vac them out of the water. It will help but won't get rid of them completely. The cleaner you keep the water and substrate the less you will see.
