The uv will not work on the string algae. You have to use a chemical algae control or barley hay. The chemical is toxic to human and domestic animals such dogs if they drink it. Barley is a dried plant / grass that is sold for ponds. The barley comes in a extract form also but cost more. The barley take more time before it works compared to the chemical. You can find this product in websites that sell pond supplies.

more plecs. maybe loaches or apple snails(bcuz they better looking and larger)? whats in there at moment. bcus if yu add snails tu get ridof the algae then yu could use CL's or puffers or gouramis to get rid of the snails

There is no way you can get rid of it naturally. Shallow water in streams and waterfalls will always develop long hair algae. During the winter months it may die off.

Snails or chemicals....I chose snails and to control them some loaches...a good combination you will get a good equilibrium!
