I have a very small Texas that I would like to growout and eventually add to my aggressive 180 gal tank. He is currently in my 75 gal community tank with Angels, Cory, etc... I also have a 29 gal I just set up for him that is currently cycling with feeder goldfish.

Should I move him to the 29 gal by himself, or keep him in the 75 gal community tank?

What should I feed him, water temp, any other tips on growth.

Thanks!

Personally I have a few grow out tanks-I always start off my fish in a 29 gallon-they tend to be shy at a small size and it is easier in a smaller tank to feed them-once my fish hits 6 inches I move them to my 240 gallon-then once the fish hits around 10 inches or so I move them to the pond.

Upping the temp helps if you want to grow him out quicker.

just use higher temps, lots of water changes and good food. would not keep it in a community of peaceful fish while doing so though

I'm growing my little 2" texas out in the tank in my sig line, lol. But if you want to put yours alone, that would certainly be better. No competition and all that. For grow outs, here's what I do...

I keep the temperature up between 82 and 84 degrees. I feed four to six times a day in small quantities. Watch out for signs of bloat. I offer a large variety of foods (frozen, pellets, crickets, earthworms, shrimp, etc.) High quality protein rich foods are the key. Shrimp seems to work well for packing on size. I leave the lights on longer, maybe 16 hours or so a day (give or take). I also do frequent water changes, 50% two to three times per week.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I will move the little texas to the 29 gal in a couple of weeks, turn up the temp, and feed him protein. I do 50% water changes on all my tanks once a week.

Maybe I could get one of the pro baseball players to give him a shot.
