how to heat 400 gal of water?

thinking of turning my indoor koi pond into a ray pond but how the hell do i heat 400 gal of water in a cost efficient way? (without eating up tons of hydro with many 100 watt heaters)
 
honestly only 2-3 if you want to double make sure 300 watt heaters would do the job rather easily
 
I have three 300 watt heaters with a controller in my 450 (sump) and once all that water gets up to temp they don't kick on that much
 
my indoor pond is just 5/8" ply with a dense 2x4 skeleton and a flexible off the roll pond liner in it to make it water tight iam thinking up ways to do a sump on the pond i would probably need to use 2" foam board to insulate it as well (never done anything bigger then a 100 gal tank)

As Didysis said 2-3 should be decent. Get a couple 300 watt heaters and you would be more then good. Adding insulation will definitely help. Also adding a cover for the pond will also help. Please do make sure you have a lip around the top to prevent any rays from slipping out.

As Silent Bob posted, insulation is key to keeping cost down......the thicker, and more coverage the better....just like a house.
 
One of the most cost effective methods I've seen is to do a DIY heat exchanger using your natural gas water heater
