How to heat a 5,272 gallon pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My uncle uses an 11,000 watt hottub heater on his 9000gl pond and that works fantastic.

not hard to do jus need a 600$ heater they sell them at retail soters on custom order

You can use the hottub heaters or make a heatexchanger by threading high temp plastic tubing through the fins of an oil filled electric radiator and circulating the water with a small inline pump. the hottub heater is better regulated but expensive. Your best bet might be just to rig an inline pump to a standard residential water heater, they are a lot cheaper.

Cover approx. 3/4 of the top with 4mil Black plastic with 2-3 inches of water on top of it. You will have to watch the temp., I pushed a 20k gal. pond to 92* in a day & a half before I noticed it. Took two days of running extra pump at night to cool it back to 85*. (my grammer is improving)

If you can partially bury the pool the water temp will be more stable. We don't get that cold for that long down here. (now watch what happens :grinno: )

Keep us posted.
