How to ID a rotkeil severum

Hello,

I'm thinking about purchasing severums listed as "orange shoulder" and the seller says they're rotkeil. They are 2". Is there any way to make sure they're not just green severums? Thanks.

At that size you will just have to take the seller's word. If he or she bred the fish you can ask to see the parents, otherwise it won't be until they hit the 3-4 inch mark when their colors start to develop that you will be able to differentiate between the two.

Rotkeil severums have 8 vertical bars, all other greens have 9. Post a picture.

The color does not show up until they're 3 - 4" so you cannot go by that.

I'm having trouble counting the bars. I don't know if the tail and face count. I trust the seller just didn't see the color. Not sure how big the fish is.

The fish in that picture has nine, so it's either not a rotkeil or it's a hybrid between a rotkeil and something else.
