I just recently added a third XP3 on my tank and noticed that the flow is very noticeably stronger then my other two. The new canister has slightly less media in it but not a ton less.

Thinking that maybe there is media that is better for flow rate then what I'm using? I'm currently using the Filstar Pads. 30p in the bottom tray, 20p in the middle tray and then a polishing pad in the top tray. I have the same setup in all filters.

I do filter maintenance on them every other month to keep the lines/tubing clean and everything un-clogged.

maybe the new pads in the new xp3 aren't as plugged up as the others that have been running for a while.

whenever i clean mine the flow is noticeably faster. also i don't use the polishing pad, it clogs too quickly for me.

Do you use pads in each department of your XP3 or do you use Bio-Rings or Ceramic Rings in one of the baskets?

Yep, sounds like your older filters are due for some maintenance.

Yeah, also going to slowly move away from the pads for my BIO media in the middle and top basket. I think that will help improve flow as well...hopefully :)
