How to keep a quarantine tank cycled?

How to keep a quarantine tank cycled when its empty. Will simply adding some fish food every few says keep her cycled? What about dosing with pure ammonia would that be better?

I know I could take seasoned media and set up the quarantine tank when ever needed but I just had major back surgery so that would be too tough on me. I would like keep the tank running all the time. Are there any other ideas that i didn't mention?

In your case, you should have a decent size sponge filter running in one of your main tank all the time and then just transfer that over to qt whenever you need to. Doesn't take much effort to pull a sponge out of one tank and drop it into another.
