Don't infect them with swine flu if you're from bayside.
Elmhurst..

sounds like your friend messed something up. parrots are pretty damn hardy, keep them the same way as any other fish, clean water and food is basically it. what specific info you looking for?

hardness, i wonder if they are easy to keep like any other cichlids, such as terrors, jacks, etc. And water temperature.

parrot fish are easy to keep. add water to a tank, dechlorinate, and add some cichlid pellets and a variety of other foods. keep temps in the mid 70's like any other cichlid, and thats basically it.

parrots are extremely hardy fish, and will live though a variety of conditions happily, as long as its a stable environment and you have no swing in temp or any other water readings.

I cleaned the whole tank yesterday, added new water(all cold water), dechlorinated, and aged it for 30 hours. but the water temperature was 72 when i added the fish, so i warmed it up, right now is 75F, if it survive until tomorrow, it should be fine.

i have kept my parrots from 76-82f, but they breed like rabbits right at 80f. so far they have survived a couple tank nukes, no other fish except for my pleco and bp's made it through. damn hardy fish.

watch to see if the parrot develops black spots, a shure sign that there is problems about to occure. usually if i slack off on water changes my female will develop some black spotting, its her way of saying "get off your ass and clean my tank." a water change is all it takes to get her right again, but dont base your waterchange schedule on it.

:hearts:I have a colony of 8 in one of my tanks and 2 in another tank and they are very easy to care for. I keep my tank at 80-82, and have a power head for my one of my cats to swim in. When it's time to "exercise" (aka the jet turns on) they all line up at the front of the tank, with the leader in the front and will swim for hours. They eat out of my hand, and will watch TV. (well, one will. She follows me around the room regardless of where the others are). We just picked up our one of our KKP this weeked when I happened to find him at my LFS. But he had a mate there and I didn't want to separate them, so I bought them both. I feed them cichlid pellets, blood worms, brine shrimp, flake, you name it they will try to eat it. I LOVE my parrots, and when we move in a few weeks we will be moving our 2 parrots into the colony of 8. :nilly:
