My eletric bill is going throught the roof all the time! It's getting colder and colder these days.. What the best way to keep my tank low energy maintenance?

At the moment is running a 100 watt heater on a 96litre tank... With no lid... Well half a lid

Any of you guys got tips or tricks ?
Thanks?

Can't really do anything about heat loss besides have a sealed lid.

As for less maintenance try feeding less and better quality food, also if you want to cut your wc in half click the link in ny Sig! It has worked for hundreds of members!

Buy energy efficient equipments. It pays for itself in the long run.

Put foam insulation boards on the bottom and back of the tank. Try to cover as much of the top of the tank as possible to prevent heat loss. Even plastic wrap will do the trick.

Provide a tight top, insulate all three sides of your tank like your hot water tank, keep temperature no higher than 75F, use only HOBs (canister and wet and dry filters consume more electricity than HOBs for the same pumping rate), and lastly consider switching to cool water fish like goldfish and native fish.

Hobs also have water bypass and are less efficient so it pretty much evens out.

Look for good deals

Yes get a full glass lid.

How long does it take a tub of hot water to go cold?
Do they make thermos without lids?

You must have a full glass lid. Otherwise, it's like reheating cold water every hour.

That is all. Just a lid.

As you can see, I use styrofoam on back, bottom and sides, it holds heat well, the thicker the better.

My basement temps gets into the high 50s in winter, so I find insulation invaluable.
In case a heater burns out, it keeps the temp from abruptly dropping until I notice, and get a chance to get a new one.
