:WHOA: When setting up a holding tank for my parrot fish, I had just drainded all te water out of the aquarium.
I said to my self what is that funny smell? smells like burnt toast?
So i put my hand in the tank (I was wearing washing up gloves and there was still some water in the aquarium)

Then FLASH BANG!!!!:help2: the aquarium heat exploded in my face with bits of glass flew everywere! It was a real shock.
And then I realized! I hade left the aquarium heat on when i Drainded all the water out.

So Always turn the heater of when doing water changes!

Thats what you a AED

Shouldnt this be in the DIY section?

Ive done it too,I put all and filters on a powerstrip and turn off the powerstrip before cleaning so it doesnt happen anymore.

It is my humble beleave that all of the aquarium material should be prepared to go off when out of the water:nilly:Untill then ALL things must be closed. This alongside other aquarium miths would make a owesame myth busters episode: can a aquarium heater kill you?;)

I had a heater bust one time when I was adding water and the temp difference caused it to break. I always unplug all heaters to prevent this from reoccuring.

or just buy stealth's....

after a few over hanging glass heaters exploded for no apparent reason and either nuked my fish or otherwise screwed up the tank.. I invested in the submersible stealth heaters. though i'de prolly try a few other brands of similar building. If I know i'mna be messing around in my tank i unplug it that am or the night before. I keep my rooma bout 72 as is.. so i really don't need heaters but my parnest liek ot crank the ac up suddenly in the summer. thus... yeah.. better safe then sorry.

thank goodness you didn't get glass in your eyes >.<
