I've had a small 1.5inch GSP for about 2 weeks now, i've already started to turn his tank brackish and he's on a healthy diet of snails, and earthworms and seems happy albeit a little bored in his solo tank, i've read that internal parasites are extremely common in these especially if bought at walmart. so i was wondering what signs to look for, and how to cure it if he does have one. his stomach is pure white except for some blotchy black lines that make him look like he's got a mustache up by his beak but they are short and not spreading. so i am in reason to believe he is not majorly stressed. and he eats often and willingly.

thanks,

I can't give you hard numbers on the first question cause it hasn't been tested.

its a 10 gallon tank, no other inhabitants

feedings have been 1-2 times daily earthworms, and snail. i started to bring the salinity up by .002sg this week

in the last week i've taen out 4 guppies and a mid sized pleco and started to convert the sg.

the tank has been inhabitated by some kind of fish for the past 4 months and has had no cassualties in it at all, and properly cared for (water changes) during this time. the longest inhabitant was 4 rbp 4 months ago (they lived in it for a month, and were $.25 sized, the last month it was inhabited by a 4-5 inch pleco and 4 guppies.)

It is very important to get yourself test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate & pH.

What about the symptoms described in the IP article?

i think i'm good on the syptoms i was just concerned from reading that it is very common for these fish to have them, he seems to be eating fine and often so i guess i'm just being a hypochondriac thanks for the help though...

I thought you could only be a hypochondriac if it was yourself. Although I have treated a few--not all mine have needed to be treated for IPs.

white poop... or blotted stomach.... usually means infection..

there are meds for it.. but pricy... available at petsmart/petco

the only darks areas he has are a few streaks around his beak where green meets white, thanks again for the help..
