From my other threads: I'm setting up a 75 gallon Mbuna Cichlid tank. I have two emperor 400 filters and a Fluval 405, I'm also going to run undergravel jets.

Will the filters aerate the water enough or should I also run an air pump?

I can pickup a rena 400 for $25 but I just don't know if I need it..

The filters should aerate it plenty, especially the pair of HOBs.
If in spite of this your fish appear to be gasping for air/breathing heavily, you should add an air pump.
My experience has been that most aquariums with a decent amount of surface agitation from filters don't need additional aeration.

X2. Those emperors aerate the water plenty. I usually always add an air pump for part time use though. Mine is set up with two 8" long airstones, low at the bottom back of the tank. Hooked up to a timer to come on 15 min every hour and a half just to turn the tank from top to bottom. Nice to have on after Wc or administering meds as well
