What are some ways to lower GH without using pillow softeners that you have to regenerize every 48 hrs?

I know driftwood helps a little.

Peat moss works great. You can either age water with it soaking in it with an airstone or you can put it in your filter. I use some in some panty hose in my W/D filter for my Discus. It is great because it does it naturally and slowly.

My water is about 11-13 and I would like to lower it around 6-8. Will the peat moss drop it that much?

How often do you replace it?

if you are looking for major changes in your chemistry it is best to look into RO and buffers As well as the obvious driftwood and peat.

That drastic I would buy some stuff to get it down to 7. I can't remember the name of the stuff I have, but I will post it when I get home. It will get you to 7. Then hit it with some peat and drift wood. The R/O will guarntee you lower ph.

For adjusting gh the ro is best

The stuff I have is just called Ph 7. But they are right, in the long run, RO is best. Is that straight from your tap at 11-13?
