Hi guys,

ANyone know some cheap and easy ways to make caves for an aquarium? What I am looking for is something that looks sorta attractive too. I know those terra cotta pots are popular, but to me they look unnatural and ugly in the tank. I was gonna buy some slate rock but it gets kind of expensive. Any ideas?

Thx

slate is good too. its just a matter of breaking it into pieces and gluing it together how you wantit.

dont forget to let it cure

I believe there's at least a couple threads dedicated to this very subject. try the search feature...

I was able to get 20ish lbs of slate for free at a local granite place, just went in there looking for a few loose pieces in the stack of random ones they had, asked the guys how much they charge for it and they just said take it. Since they deal in tons for landscaping and stuff they dont care about a few pieces.

First time i pretended like i wanted samples for a "project" i was doing in my backyard lol

Get a large diameter pvc pipe, cut in half lengthwise, cover outside in silicone, add gravel/sand

Thanks, these sound pretty good. I remember someone posted some DIY caves that were like this. This is more of what I am looking for, cause atleast it will look kinda natural with gravel on it.

I personally go to the creek and find all kinds of stuff for the tank
Thats what I did when I was deep into keeping African cichlids.Get a few rocks that you like and silicone them together making different formations.
