he usally sits in the corner when lights are on....swims alot when they are off....i dimmed lights a bit with tape and now thinking of picking up a black background....any other ideas to make him come out of his shell??? had him about 6 weeks

give it more time. some fish takes minutes to get out of their shell and some may take years. once it get comfortable in the tank it'll be out in the open a little more.
you can also add some decor to the tank to help it feel more comfortable.

I have the same problem with my elongatus too. I guess I have to wait for it to get use to his tank. I just moved him from a 40 gallon breeder to a 55 gal tank to have more swimming space. Now, It's a "wait and see" game.

:naughty:heres a vid and some pics of my comp hes a pretty badass fish when he actully swims around...any idea when he will get red eyes and darken up?

I've always used convicts I've bred. I toss 50+ in with the rhom ever month or two when there about 1" in length. I cull the bigger ones in the display tank because I dont want millions of them. Guppies work ok to as something for him to chase around, but I have quite a few plants for them to hide in.
