There is a lot of talk these days of green this green that. So I was thinking what is the Carbon foot print of our hobby. I know that LED lights would help, now what about cutting the amount of power our filters use. I try to keep lots of plants in my house becuace then I feel that I am helping to make up for some of the CO2 that my fish are pumping out.

What do you do to try and help lower your carbon foot print in the hobby and around the house?

I just my math for my tanks I am at 141 kw/month. All I have is 264 w of lights, and FX5 two heaters and an air pump.

I've been centralizing filters as much as I can. With that I can reduce the number of heaters. Also, I run the lights a lot less than I used to.

It'll take me a while to find my total power consumption, but I'll work on it.

At least the electric heat from the tanks allows me to run my gas furnace less. I've only used my furnace for about 2 hours this year, and that was to make sure it works.

I only have a 200w heater, penguin 330 and whisper 10i running. The light goes on for periods of 15 mins when the fish get fed, but they get sunlight from across the room whenever it's bright out.
